Very near and within view of The Burro Schmidt Tunnel is another historic site.

Mark Aslin is the current site steward at Bickel Camp. Mark has a lot of knowledge of the area having lived in the canyon for many years as a younger man. He loves questions!

Bickel Camp

Bickel Camp is a very well preserved depression era mining camp full of history and full of artifacts including Walt Bickel's intact cabin. This museum in the desert is well worth visiting.

With BLM and & claim owner approval, a caretaker is living at Bickel Camp.

Because of this symbiosis Bickle Camp is protected and maintained for desert visitors to learn from and enjoy.

We need alternates for caretakers and we need future Burro Schmidt Tunnel caretakers so we are looking for individuals and couples who would be interested in caretaker/docent responsibilities at these sites. If you are interested in finding out more about this desert opportunity please contact us at the link to the left.
